Passwords today can be problematic. That eight-digit phrase including your first child’s name and the year they were born may work for Facebook. But if your social security number is involved – not a chance. As far as securing things go, passwords are oftentimes bad at their job.

At Signet Screening, keeping applicants’ personal information secure is a top priority of ours. We don’t mess around with single-factor authentication, such as matching a username with a password. The secret to our security success is multi-factor authentication.

What is multi-factor authentication?

All job applicant information posts directly to our secure website, secured by multi-factor authentication. This advanced security system requires more than one method of authentication from independent categories of credentials to verify the user’s identity for a login or other transaction. In other words, it requires a combination of two or three factors, including something you know (like a password or PIN), something you have (like a smart card) and something you are (like your fingerprint).

To access Signet Screening’s secure website, we require a password and a one-time authentication code that’s sent to the person’s phone or email.

How do applicants safely upload their information?

Signet Screening offers our clients two options on how to upload their applicants’ information on our secure website so we can conduct the appropriate background checks:

  1. Applicants can fill out a paper application with their credentials, and the client can upload it onto our secure website.
  2. Applicants receive a protected link that allows them to input the information after logging in using multi-factor authentication.

Signet Screening President Matt Messersmith strongly encourages companies to refrain from sending personal information over email due to its lack of security.

“We don’t want information sent via email,” says Messersmith. “We have the ability to send you the link (to our secure website), and you enter in with your social security number.”

Signet Screening continually updates our website’s security, and we haven’t experienced a security breach during our six years of business.
